GE has provided freight and passenger locomotives, signaling and communications systems and rail services to help solve the world’s toughest rail challenges. In 2012, it expanded its rail Optimization Solutions business by acquiring RMI, a leading provider of transportation management software solutions for railroads, rail shippers, railcar leasing companies and intermodal services in North America.
Completed in January 2012, this acquisition highlights GE Transportation’s commitment to the global rail industry with a broadened ability to provide secure, reliable and cost-effective Software as a Service (SaaS) and licensed solutions that support daily, mission-critical rail operations.
RMI is part of GE Transportation’s $4 billion a year software and solutions services business that delivers sophisticated technologies and software applications to help the rail industry optimize operations, assets, networks and energy use while enabling them to reduce operational expenses, increase productivity, expand capacity, and reduce fuel use and emissions. The sophisticated technology solutions featured and demonstrated at InnoTrans 2012 in Berlin, September 18 through 21 are the RailConnect Transportation Management System, RailDOCS Wayside Asset Management System and the OASIS Intermodal Terminal Operating System.
