GE Transportation’s strong results through the third quarter in 2012 were driven by continued infrastructure growth in the markets in which the company operates.
GE Transportation reported $1.4 billion in third-quarter 2012 revenues, up 9% versus 3Q 2011 and 24% year-over-year. The segment profits for 3Q in 2012 were $265 million, up 35% from $197 million in third quarter 2011. GE Transportation’s orders in the third quarter rose 21% to $1.2 billion, driven by locomotive orders from international customers.
“The third quarter continued our record of strong revenue growth and strategic investments for the future, “said Lorenzo Simonelli, President and CEO of GE Transportation. “Significant events during the quarter include the introduction of the EU version of our PowerHaul locomotive, the most powerful, fuel efficient and low emission locomotive available in Europe, and the launch of GE Mining, a new global enterprise which will bring GE technology and systems integration solutions to help mining customers around the world solve their toughest problems.”
