GE Transportation and Penn State Behrend will offer GE Girls, a unique program for 6th and 7th grade girls in the Erie community, from June 20 to 24.
GE Girls at Penn State Behrend is part of an educational outreach initiative in partnership with universities across the U.S. designed to influence girls at a critical age and interest them in math/science and science-based careers. This STEM program began in 2011 with one program and has since grown to 11 programs and reached over 700 girls.
The Penn State Behrend program will focus on science, technology, engineering, math and fun. The exclusive curriculum, designed in partnership between GE Transportation and Penn State Behrend, includes activities focusing on design, electronics, chemistry, structures and energy. Girls will have the opportunity to simulate the experience of driving a GE locomotive, create their own wind turbine, and learn about injection mold design in the largest plastics training lab in the country. Each program participant also will meet with an accomplished female mentor from GE Transportation.
GE Girls is sponsored by the GE Women’s Network in collaboration with Penn State Behrend.
