GE Transportation Celebrates Community Day in Cities Across the Globe
CHICAGO, July 20, 2017- This week more than 1,000 GE Transportation employees across the globe are joining forces to give back to their communities. Employees from nearly 20 GE Transportation sites spanning four continents are leaving their desks to pick up aprons, paint brushes, rollers and rakes as part of Global Community Day. The volunteers are working on approximately 20 projects to feed the hungry, drive urban revitalization, repair schools and support community members in need.
“As a company, GE Transportation is committed to the communities we call home,” said Jamie Miller, GE Transportation Chief Executive Officer. “We have a history of being active members in our communities working to improve areas such as health, education, the environment and overall community-building. Global Community Day extends that tradition and reinforces the connection and commitment we have to our fellow community members.”
Throughout this week, these employees are contributing over 6,500 hours to serving more than 5,000 pounds of food, applying more than 200 gallons of paint, and engaging in other service-related activities. Some of the organizations GE Transportation supported around the world included: school districts, community centers, cancer support communities, youth organizations, and numerous food banks.
GE Transportation’s commitment to community is not a one-week venture. Employees make an impact year-round. Last year, GE Transportation and its employees donated $3 million and more than 16,000 hours in their local communities.
GE Transportation volunteers are part of GE Volunteers is a global network that includes employees, retirees, Affinity Groups, friends and family. The mission of GE Volunteers is to facilitate and support volunteering activities that improve life and meet critical needs in the communities where GE people live and work around the world.
