(Dec. 16, 2009) – With today’s passage of the Jobs for Main Street Act by the U.S. House of Representatives, GE Transportation has moved a major step closer to a potential order for the next generation, higher-speed passenger locomotives from Amtrak. The Act provides $800 million for Amtrak fleet modernization, including the purchase of new “fuel efficient locomotives.” Amtrak has previously expressed interest in upgrading their aging passenger locomotive fleet. Once the critical funding for Amtrak to modernize its fleet is enacted into law, GE remains confident it can provide a superior proposal to Amtrak for the new locomotives. GE Marine, a unit of GE Transportation, announced that the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has type approved its new L250 engine family for ABS-classed vessel applications. ERIE, Pennsylvania (April 7, 2008) – GE Marine announced it will provide Conrad Industries, Inc., Morgan City, La., with two 8 cylinder V228 medium-speed diesel engines through NREC Power Systems, a GE authorized dealer. The engines will power a passenger/vehicle ferry designed by Alan C. McClure Associates, Inc. and Schuller & Allan LLC, both of Houston, Texas.
