(February 26, 2010) - GE Transportation announced today that it has won a contract to supply TriMet, Portland, Oregon’s Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District transit network, with an advanced voice radio and data communications system to help increase safety and efficiency for TriMet’s 115 million annual passengers.

Erie, Pa. (February 23, 2010) – GE Marine, a unit of GE Transportation, announced today that Parker Towing Company, Inc. has reached an agreement with NREC Power Systems to purchase twin GE inline eight cylinder L250 (8L250) diesel engines as their propulsion source for a new towboat. This application will be the first commercial operation of the 8L250 engine platform on U.S. inland waterways.

Erie, Penn., USA and Lagos, Nigeria (February 5, 2010) - The Nigerian Ministry of Transport and GE Transportation announced today that the Nigerian Railway Corporation has taken delivery of the first five C25 diesel locomotives – introducing new technology to Nigeria’s rail system. The locomotives will be used for both freight and passenger service. The remaining 20 locomotives will be delivered in the second half of 2010.

Erie, Penn. (January 27, 2010) - GE Transportation and Komatsu announced today the delivery of 17 Komatsu 830E-AC mining trucks containing GE240AC™ drive systems to Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL). The units will be the first AC mining trucks in India.

ERIE, Penn. (Jan. 22, 2010) – GE announced today fourth-quarter 2009 earnings from continuing operations (attributable to GE) of $3.0 billion, or $0.28 per share. Revenues were $41.4 billion for the quarter and $157 billion for the year.

GE Transportation reported 2009 revenues totaling $3.8 billion, down 24% year-over-year. GE Transportation generated $473 million in segment profits, down 51% compared to the previous year.

Erie, Penn., USA and Contagem, MG, Brazil (Jan. 7, 2010) – GE Transportation announced today it has signed an agreement with Cosan to deliver 50 new AC44i locomotives for freight transport starting in 2010 through Rumo, Cosan’s subsidiary for logistics operations. Cosan is the leading grower and processor of sugar cane and one of the largest ethanol and sugar producers in the world. Cosan will use the new locomotives to haul sugar from its processing plants to port on the rail infrastructure provided by its partner America Latina Logistica (ALL).

Johannesburg, South Africa and Erie, Penn., USA (December 18, 2009) – GE South African Technologies (GESAT), GE Transportation’s entity in South Africa, announced today that it has signed a landmark contract with Transnet Limited to supply Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) with 100 locomotives. TFR is South Africa's state-owned rail freight logistics utility; Transnet Limited is its parent company. Ten of the locomotives will be manufactured in Erie and Grove City, USA and 90 will be manufactured locally at Transnet Rail Engineering’s site in South Africa with kits provided by GE Transportation.

Erie, Penn. (Dec. 16, 2009) – With today’s passage of the Jobs for Main Street Act by the U.S. House of Representatives, GE Transportation has moved a major step closer to a potential order for the next generation, higher-speed passenger locomotives from Amtrak. The Act provides $800 million for Amtrak fleet modernization, including the purchase of new “fuel efficient locomotives.” Amtrak has previously expressed interest in upgrading their aging passenger locomotive fleet. Once the critical funding for Amtrak to modernize its fleet is enacted into law, GE remains confident it can provide a superior proposal to Amtrak for the new locomotives.

Astana, Kazakhstan and Erie, Pennsylvania, USA (December 7, 2009) - GE Transportation has announced that the first Evolution® Series locomotive has been assembled in a new locomotive plant in Astana, Kazakhstan. Erie, PA, USA and Contagem, Brazil (Dec. 3, 2009) - GE Transportation announced it has signed an agreement with America Latina Logistica (ALL) to deliver 10 new AC44i locomotives in 2009 for freight transport. ALL operates the largest independent general cargo railway in South America with a fleet of more than 1,000 locomotives and 21,000 km of railways connecting Brazil and Argentina.

Erie, Pa., USA and Beijing, China (Nov. 17, 2009)  – GE Transportation announced the formation of a joint venture company with CSR Qishuyan Locomotive Co., Ltd., a unit of China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Corporation Limited (CSR), to develop, build and service GE’s Evolution® Series locomotive diesel engines in China. The announcement was made as part of "GE's Clean Technology Week in China" activities. The joint venture is scheduled to launch operations at the end of 2011, including the assembly, testing and overhaul of engine components such as power assemblies and turbochargers in China. During the second phase, starting in 2013 engines as well as components will be assembled, tested and overhauled.

Erie, Pa., USA and Beijing, China (Nov. 16, 2009) – GE Transportation announced that it has reached an agreement with CSR Qishuyan Locomotive Co., Ltd. to provide 300 locomotive assemblies for China HXN5 Mainline locomotives produced by CSR Qishuyan with Evolution® Series diesel engines. The agreement helps to sustain close to 1,200 high-tech jobs in the U.S. The announcement was made as part of "GE's Clean Technology Week in China" activities.

GE Transportation’s Mining division announced the successful upgrade of more than 40 haul trucks since July for various mines to lower life cycle costs and improve availability and productivity of assets during the current economic downturn. The trucks have been outfitted with GE’s GDY106 AC electric drive wheel motor as GE was awarded several contracts to supply the aftermarket wheel motors to mine operators in North America and Indonesia.

GE Transportation announced the shipment of the first two of its newest global-class PowerHaul Series freight locomotives to its customer Freightliner Group Ltd in the United Kingdom. The PowerHaul Series locomotive represents GE Transportation's first entry to the U.K. and European marketplace.

GE Transportation announced that its Evolution Series® locomotive is on display at Russia’s Expo 1520 and ready for the Russian and 1520-area markets. The Evolution Series locomotive represents a $400 million investment by GE over eight years. The innovative locomotive is equipped with a 12-cylinder diesel engine that produces the same 4,400 horsepower as its 16-cylinder predecessor. The Evolution engine uses up to 5% less fuel, or approximately 1.1 million fewer liters of fuel over the life of the locomotive, while reducing emissions by approximately 40%.

GE Transportation and EuroMaint Rail announced an alliance to collaborate on rolling stock services and technology for the rail industry that will provide European rail customers with an unprecedented level of service capabilities.

GE Drivetrain Technologies, a unit of GE Transportation, and Chongqing XinXing Fengneng Investment Co., Ltd. announced the formation of a joint venture company to produce large diameter gears for the wind turbine industry. Under the terms of the joint venture, Chongqing XinXing Fengneng will be the majority owner, and the gears will be produced in a new manufacturing facility in Chongqing, China.

GE Marine, a unit of GE Transportation, announced that it has signed a business cooperation agreement with the Marine division of Ingeteam, a company headquartered in Spain that specializes in electronic control system automation and application engineering in the marine, industry, railway traction and renewable energy fields.

Trip Optimizer, a product of Ecomagination, is an advanced energy management system that optimizes fuel consumption based on a specific train's makeup and the route being traveled.

GE Transportation has announced the grand opening of a new locomotive assembly plant in Astana, Kazakhstan. On July 3, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, hosted the official inauguration of the plant which will assemble GE Evolution® Series locomotives to serve railroad customers in Kazakhstan and the surrounding region.

GE Transportation announced that the Daqin Railway Line has reached a hauling milestone of 500 million tons by successfully running trains equipped with GE’s LOCOTROL distributed power system since March 2006. GE Transportation announced it has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Nigerian Federal Ministry on behalf of the Nigerian Railway Corporation to deliver 25 new locomotives in 2010 for freight and passenger transport. “The Nigerian Transport Ministry looks forward to its partnership with GE Transportation,” said Alhaji Ibrahim Bio, Nigerian Minister of Transport. “The delivery of these new locomotives will be key to our continued railroad infrastructure development and economic growth.”

GE Transportation announced that it has delivered and equipped six LOCOTROL remote control locomotive (RCL) systems for Canadian National Railways (CN) at its Johnson Yard in Memphis, Tenn. LOCOTROL RCL enables improved efficiency of yard operations while providing an increased level of operator control. The system can decrease yard movements and improve interchange management for increased network velocity.

GE Marine, a unit of GE Transportation, announced that the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has type approved its new L250 engine family for ABS-classed vessel applications. Introduced in September 2008, the L250 engine is US EPA Tier II certified and offers an average fuel savings of 9% at those emissions levels when compared to the previous generation of marine engines.

GE Transportation reported $1.1 billion in first-quarter revenues, up 2% year-over-year. Segment profits for the same period were $217 million, down 15% year-over-year. GE’s transportation business received $940 million of orders in the first quarter, down 10% compared to Q1 2008. Equipment orders in Q1 were down 60%, partially offset by service orders (up 19%) in the propulsion and signaling adjacencies. GE Transportation’s performance was driven by growth in propulsion adjacencies (up 27%), including wind. In addition, the business implemented aggressive cost cutting measures to offset the impact of the continued global economic downturn and softening market conditions.

GE Transportation announced that it has been awarded UIC certificates E-001/2009-02 for its Evolution® V12 diesel locomotive engines that power its Evolution Series locomotives. The Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer (UIC – International Union of Railways) inspection procedure, which includes an endurance run as well as tests to determine exhaust emissions, verified both the engine’s mechanical quality and compliance with the stringent demands of UIC Stage IIIA emissions standards.

Erie, Penn. (September 22, 2008) -- GE introduced the 772 series in 1963 as the mining industry’s first electric drive system. 772 DC models ranged from 85- to 120-ton capacity. The still operational 772E drive wheel motor on display recently was retired after 38 years of service. The drive started its career in 1970 working for a Montana copper mine and ended service earlier this year after working in a Washington quarry.

ERIE, Pennsylvania (April 7, 2008) – GE Marine announced it will provide Conrad Industries, Inc., Morgan City, La., with two 8 cylinder V228 medium-speed diesel engines through NREC Power Systems, a GE authorized dealer. The engines will power a passenger/vehicle ferry designed by Alan C. McClure Associates, Inc. and Schuller & Allan LLC, both of Houston, Texas. The ferry is being built by Conrad Industries for the Texas Department of Transportation, Austin.
