GE Transportation announced that it has been awarded a contract by Canadian Pacific Railway Limited to equip 200 locomotives with its Trip Optimizer fuel savings product. Trip Optimizer, a product of Ecomagination, is an advanced energy management system that optimizes fuel consumption based on a specific train's makeup and the route being traveled.

GE Transportation has announced the grand opening of a new locomotive assembly plant in Astana, Kazakhstan. On July 3, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, hosted the official inauguration of the plant which will assemble GE Evolution® Series locomotives to serve railroad customers in Kazakhstan and the surrounding region.

GE Transportation announced that the Daqin Railway Line has reached a hauling milestone of 500 million tons by successfully running trains equipped with GE’s LOCOTROL distributed power system since March 2006. To meet increasing demands on coal transportation, the Chinese Ministry of Railway (MOR) needed to run 20,000-ton heavy haul trains on the line. To accomplish this, LOCOTROL distributed power technology played a key role.

On Friday, June 19th, GE Transportation presented a check to the March of Dimes for more than $52,000 at GE’s Learning Center Atrium, the most raised ever by GE Transportation and its employees for the March of Dimes. For the past 14 years, GE Transportation has taken the inititative in supporting and raising funds for the March of Dimes through its largest fundraiser, the March for Babies.

GE Transportation announced today the results of a head-to-head fuel test between GE’s Evolution® ES44AC and EMD’s SD70ACe Tier 2 emissions-compliant locomotives. According to an independent research study GE’s locomotives are over 6% more fuel-efficient compared to their EMD counterparts.

Following the success of GE Drivetrain Technologies’ wind gearbox business, the Company will immediately offer doubly fed induction and permanent magnet generators in the 2 – 6 megawatt (MW) power range.

GE Transportation announced today it has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Nigerian Federal Ministry on behalf of the Nigerian Railway Corporation to deliver 25 new locomotives in 2010 for freight and passenger transport. “The Nigerian Transport Ministry looks forward to its partnership with GE Transportation,” said Alhaji Ibrahim Bio, Nigerian Minister of Transport. “The delivery of these new locomotives will be key to our continued railroad infrastructure development and economic growth.”

GE Transportation announced today that it has delivered and equipped six LOCOTROL remote control locomotive (RCL) systems for Canadian National Railways (CN) at its Johnson Yard in Memphis, Tenn. LOCOTROL RCL enables improved efficiency of yard operations while providing an increased level of operator control. The system can decrease yard movements and improve interchange management for increased network velocity.

GE Marine, a unit of GE Transportation, announced today that the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has type approved its new L250 engine family for ABS-classed vessel applications. Introduced in September 2008, the L250 engine is US EPA Tier II certified and offers an average fuel savings of 9% at those emissions levels when compared to the previous generation of marine engines.

GE Transportation reported $1.1 billion in first-quarter revenues, up 2% year-over-year. Segment profits for the same period were $217 million, down 15% year-over-year. GE’s transportation business received $940 million of orders in the first quarter, down 10% compared to Q1 2008. Equipment orders in Q1 were down 60%, partially offset by service orders (up 19%) in the propulsion and signaling adjacencies. GE Transportation’s performance was driven by growth in propulsion adjacencies (up 27%), including wind. In addition, the business implemented aggressive cost cutting measures to offset the impact of the continued global economic downturn and softening market conditions.

GE Transportation announced today that it has been awarded UIC certificates E-001/2009-02 for its Evolution® V12 diesel locomotive engines that power its Evolution Series locomotives. The Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer (UIC – International Union of Railways) inspection procedure, which includes an endurance run as well as tests to determine exhaust emissions, verified both the engine’s mechanical quality and compliance with the stringent demands of UIC Stage IIIA emissions standards.

GE Transportation announced that its employees in conjunction with the GE Foundation raised record contributions for United Way during its 2008 campaign. The charitable donations are especially meaningful since they originated during the most challenging economic times in decades. Responding to the economic downturn, the GE Foundation announced last December that it would be increasing its corporate match of employee donations on behalf of the 2008 United Way campaign from 40% to 50%.

Erie, Pennsylvania, USA (March 18, 2009) - GE Transportation, a unit of the General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), announced today that its customer Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) has taken delivery of the 3,000th Evolution Series® locomotive produced at GE Transportation’s Erie, Pennsylvania manufacturing site. The Evolution is the most technologically advanced diesel electric, heavy-haul locomotive to-date. One Evolution Series locomotive can pull the equivalent of 170 Boeing 747 “Jumbo Jet” airliners.

Florence, Italy (March 17, 2009) – GE Transportation announced that it has signed a contract valued at more than €47 million ($60million) with Trenitalia, the operation company of the Italian State Railways, for the design,supply and installation of 400 on board Sistema di Supporto alla Condotta - SSC trainprotection systems for diesel locomotives in Trenitalia’s passenger and cargo fleet.

Shenyang, China (March 5, 2009) – GE Drivetrain Technologies, a unit of GE Transportation, and A-Power Energy Generation Systems (NASDAQ: APWR) announced today that the companies have signed agreements for GE Drivetrain Technologies to supply A-Power with 2.7 megawatt (MW) wind turbine gearboxes and to establish a Joint Venture partnership for a wind turbine gearbox manufacturing plant in China. The contracts follow the signing of letters of intent in January of this year.

Erie, Penn., Jan. 23, 2009 – GE announced today fourth-quarter 2008 earnings from continuing operations of $3.9 billion, or $.37 per share before preferred dividend, or $.36 per share attributable to common shareowners. Results included $1.5 billion of after-tax restructuring and other charges, including increased reserves in current environment, which are above the Company’s original plan and the restructuring will lower costs for 2009 and beyond.

The engines will power four harbor tugboats and eight Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels, the company reported today at the International WorkBoat Show.

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana, December 3, 2008 -- GE Transportation will supply Marinsa, Panama, with 26 V228 diesel engines. The 12-cylinder engines will power 13 new tugboats to be used in the Panama Canal in Panama, GE reported today at the International WorkBoat Show.

Changzhou, China and Erie, Penn. (Nov. 25, 2008) – For the past 100 years, GE Transportation, a unit of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), has perfected the art and science of building some of the most powerful and fuel-efficient locomotives worldwide. Today, the company completed the first China Mainline Locomotive (CML) “HXN50003” assembled in-country by its partner Qishuyan Locomotive Co., Ltd. (QSY). GE’s China Mainline Locomotive generates 6,250 GHP and can pull the equivalent of 205 Boeing 747 “Jumbo Jet” airliners.

Erie, Penn. and New Delhi, India (Oct. 21, 2008) - GE Transportation, a unit of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) and global diesel locomotive technology leader, and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) joined forces to compete for a 1,000 diesel locomotive tender issued by Indian Railways. GE was recently shortlisted by the Indian Railways to compete for this tender. GE and BHEL along with Indian Railways intend to form a Joint Venture company for this purpose.

Erie, Penn., Oct. 10, 2008 – GE announced today third quarter 2008 earnings from continuing operations of $4.5 billion, or $.45 per share, down 12% and 10%, respectively, from third quarter 2007, driven primarily by a decrease in financial services earnings. Third quarter revenues from continuing operations were $47.2 billion, up 11%.

Erie, Penn. (September 22, 2008) -- GE introduced the 772 series in 1963 as the mining industry’s first electric drive system. 772 DC models ranged from 85- to 120-ton capacity. The still operational 772E drive wheel motor on display recently was retired after 38 years of service. The drive started its career in 1970 working for a Montana copper mine and ended service earlier this year after working in a Washington quarry.

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, July 2, 2008 – GE - Transportation, a unit of the General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), announced today that it has been awarded a $60 million contract from Vale to overhaul its signaling and communication system along approximately 600Km of double line track on the Railroad Vitória to Minas (EFVM) and in the rail yard of the Tubarão Port. The engines will be used for six tugboats being built by Uzmar Shipbuilding Industry and Trade Inc., Istanbul. Global Denizcilik Hizmetleri Ltd Şti is GE’s engine distributor in Turkey.

ERIE, Pennsylvania (May 1, 2008) – GE Marine announces that it will supply IML Power, Lomagna, Italy, with eight V228 medium-speed diesel engines. The 16-cylinder engines will power four new, UT755L-type offshore platform supply vessels.

ERIE, Pennsylvania (April 23, 2008) – GE Marine announced that it will supply SKAMEK Power, Alesund, Norway, with four 16-cylinder V250 diesel generator-sets. The engine gensets will be used by Polycrest, Stavanger, Norway, for its Offshore Flotel Vessel.

ERIE, Pennsylvania (April 7, 2008) – GE Marine announced it will provide Conrad Industries, Inc., Morgan City, La., with two 8 cylinder V228 medium-speed diesel engines through NREC Power Systems, a GE authorized dealer. The engines will power a passenger/vehicle ferry designed by Alan C. McClure Associates, Inc. and Schuller & Allan LLC, both of Houston, Texas. The ferry is being built by Conrad Industries for the Texas Department of Transportation, Austin.
