A history of performance

The design and operation of today’s Evolution® Series and AC4400 locomotives reflect GE’s expertise gained through the development of earlier product lines. That includes recent special models for passenger and international applications, the DASH Series of locomotives beginning in the late 1970s and, prior to that, the Universal Series of locomotives introduced in the mid-1950s.

GE GENESIS™ Series Passenger Locomotives

Available as either straight diesel with DC propulsion or dual-mode with AC propulsion, GENESIS locomotives have a high-strength, lightweight design, microprocessor-controlled head end power and electronic fuel injection.

GE DASH 8

A DC propulsion mainline locomotive, the DASH 8 is powered by the GE 7FDL™ 16- or 12-cylinder, turbocharged engine. Electronic fuel injection packages offer fuel economy as well as reduced emissions and lower maintenance costs.

Universal Series

Powered by the GE 7FDL diesel engine, with DC/DC or AC/DC propulsion systems, the Universal Series locomotive features configurations for various gauges, axle loads and horsepower output.

Blue Tiger

Developed jointly by GE - Transportation and Bombardier, the Blue Tiger diesel-electric locomotive has an axle weight of less than 25 metric tonnes. It is available in various horsepower ratings and may use either AC or DC propulsion systems.

A DC propulsion mainline locomotive, the DASH 7 is powered by the 12-cylinder GE 7FDL turbocharged engine and features a performance-proven traction system and speed-based adhesion control with multi-channel LED annunciator panel.
