GE Transportation Donates $25,000 to the Chicago Public Schools’ STEM Program

Today, GE Transportation, a unit of the General Electric Company, donated $25,000 to the Chicago Public Schools’ Early College Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Schools (ECSS). ECSS prepares Chicago Public School students for college and professional careers by teaching them the skills needed to succeed in a competitive and global economy. Having recently relocated its corporate headquarters to Chicago, GE Transportation is continuing its tradition of supporting the communities in which it works all over the world.

The ECSS program is focused on preparing students to go to college and launch careers in STEM-related fields. It seeks to equip students for high-skilled jobs because workers with only a high school education or less currently account for only 41 percent of the workforce in America. By 2018, two-thirds of jobs in the U.S. will require at least some college education.
