GE, KTZ and Transmashdiesel create a joint venture to produce diesel engines in Kazakhstan

GE has signed an agreement with Transmashdiesel and JSC National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy's (KTZ) subsidiary JSC Remlokomotiv to create a joint venture company to produce diesel engines in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The JV will produce approximately 400 Evolution Series diesel engines a year to serve rail, marine and stationary power customers in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region.  The JV will plan to invest approximately $90 million to build a new diesel engine facility in Astana, Kazakhstan and intend to manufacture, sell, service and provide spare parts for Evolution Series diesel engines.

GE Transportation Reports Strong Third Quarter Earnings

GE Transportation’s strong results through the third quarter in 2012 were driven by continued infrastructure growth in the markets in which the company operates.

GE Transportation reported $1.4 billion in third-quarter 2012 revenues, up 9% versus 3Q 2011 and 24% year-over-year. The segment profits for 3Q in 2012 were $265 million, up 35% from $197 million in third quarter 2011. GE Transportation’s orders in the third quarter rose 21% to $1.2 billion, driven by locomotive orders from international customers.

GE’s Durathon Battery Achieves NEBS Level 3 Certification

GE Energy Storage, a manufacturer of performance leading sodium nickel-based batteries, announced that its Durathon™ E4810 and E4815 Batteries have completed qualification testing to achieve Telcordia’s NEBS™ Level 3 certification. These Durathon Battery models have also demonstrated conformance to the requirements for outside plant electronics detailed in GR-3108 “Generic Requirements for Network Equipment in the Outside Plant (OSP),” no. 2 (2008).
